My Travel Story

This summer, a group of 6 students from West Linn High School have the opportunity to travel to Japan, spending three weeks abroad in July. By the time that we leave, we will all have completed two or three years of the Japanese language program at our high school; we all have a huge interest in Japanese culture and learning first-hand about the nation. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us, with one week of roaming around major cities and exploring things such as the Hiroshima Memorial Peace Park and Museum, the Itsukushima shrine, several traditional Buddhist temples, the Bamboo Forest in Kyoto, downtown Osaka and several other places; and then two weeks of homestay in Kochi-shi, during which we will be attending the local Japanese high school in a fully immersive experience.

With this opportunity comes a high price, and while we were fully aware of that when we signed up for that, due to unforeseeable circumstances all of us must pay an extra $700. We need help raising money in order to partake in this incredible experience. Our goal is to raise a base amount of $2100, which would cover half of the costs for everyone. Ideally we would like to raise $4200, which would cover everyone's extra surprise fee.

We are also doing several fundraisers, including a Teacher's Night Out in which we are babysitting our teacher's kids and a Bike-a-thon around the area (likely covering between 10 and 20 miles of trail) after school gets out. If you would like to donate to the Bike-a-thon, you may also do so here. Thank you for considering. Every little bit helps!

Thanks,
Elizabeth
