My Travel Story

by: FMT User Start Date: Apr 22, 2015 - End Date: May 26, 2015
Update: May 20, 2015:

First, and most importantly, thank you so much to everyone who has donated and otherwise supported my study efforts.

My grades, experience, and financial need qualified me for a partial program scholarship from the university, for which I am so grateful.

However, I still need to raise $2,500 this week to cover the final cost as well as airfare, which is pricey this time of year.

Please help me reach my (amended) goal of $3,795 by May 25. The campaign closes in seven days.

Thank you again!

This summer I have the amazing opportunity to complete an academic internship and learn about cooperation, history, and security in the Middle East. I will be matched with a local organization, where I will work for 20 hours a week, and attend courses at the University of Haifa. Examples of some of the local organizations' work includes aiding refugee women, survivors of domestic abuse and conflict, and children.

Why are you going there?
Middle Eastern history and policy is my passion. I worked for an international women's organization from 2010-14 as a Middle Eastern Correspondent and, later, the Research Manager. After completing my degree I intend to pursue more opportunities in the region, including journalism and refugee aid work.

In a broader sense, the trip is my chance to become a more informed participant in international policy dialogue as well as further my own career goals in Middle Eastern policy, gender, and security.

What are you asking for?
I am fundraising to help cover the program costs, room and board, flights, and living expenses. I will be living in the dorms with international students and (hopefully) tasting every food in the vicinity. As a history major, you can imagine why I also want to be able to take a day trip or two. And international flights from the U.S. east coast are expensive, especially if I fly from Philadelphia.

I am grateful for any help you can give. Thank you!
