Put more thought into your fundraising.

As social media has grown over the last five years, so to has the phenomena of online fundraising. Back in the day, if you wanted to raise money for a cause you ventured door-to-door around your neighborhood with a sign-up sheet asking people you know to make pledges. After you’d endured sitting in a bath of baked beans or running a half marathon you went back around the neighborhood and collected up your cash from reluctant pledgers before mailing your money off in the post to the foundation of your choice.

Nowadays, thanks to the likes of Facebook and Twitter, you can effortlessly disseminate information about your fundraising techniques through the click of a button as well as having the funds automatically wired straight to your PayPal or a registered foundations bank account.

Whilst this process saves a lot of time, it can also desensitize people to the importance of fundraising. Today, it may seem like everyone of your friends list is wanting to raise thousands of dollars by doing a 5 kilometer run and quite honestly there’s just way too many people out there doing the same or similar thing. As a result, these campaigns lack a significant impact.

At Fund My Travel we’re committed to online fundraising for people wanting to fund their meaningful travel experiences. As a result, we’ve come up with a short list of ways to put more thought into your fundraising so that your campaign will have the best impact and really help you reach your goal.

Taste a Nation: How life abroad can heighten your senses.

At Fund My Travel, we’re pretty passionate about how meaningful travel can help change people’s perception of the world and the way in which we live our lives. Today we focus on the sensation of taste and how it can create national identity and define an experience abroad.

Old Question, New Answers “Why Volunteer Abroad?”

Definitely one of the most over-used titles on any volunteer abroad blog is ‘Why Volunteer Abroad?’. Despite its simplicity, this mere three word query is something that we as volunteer abroad bloggers just can’t leave well alone.

In most cases, articles are very similar: the author will note down very valid points about how volunteering abroad will introduce you to a new culture, help you contribute to the economy, enhance your education and offer you the opportunity to contribute your time and skills to noble and worthwhile projects. For the most part, all of these reasons are truly valid, but of course you already knew that, right? After all you’re thinking of volunteering in Guatemala for 4 weeks, you’ve already pretty much worked out that you’re going to be experiencing a new culture, spending money, donating time and hopefully learning a thing or two a long the way.

After working hands on with volunteers for a number of years, I’d like to offer a new perspective to this age old question. So without further-a-do, I give you a few reasons why you should volunteer abroad.
