Hi, I'm Abigail Mansfield, a 16 year old girl from Michigan, planning to become an amazing surgeon one day. It has always been a dream of mine to be involved in medicine in some way, and I've constantly been exploring careers since freshman year. Now as a Junior, I realize it is time to become serious about what I want to do.
Luckily, I found an amazing opportunity just when I needed it most. GAP medicine is a program that allows high school students like myself to travel across the world and learn from the doctors that we one day wish to be. After years of doing research on college and watching different procedures on t.v. shows and YouTube, there isn't a doubt in my mind that this is the opportunity that I need.
I plan to go to Poland anytime July-August for roughly 2 weeks, where I can learn in a hospital that has amazing technology. I don't want to put all of the pressure of raising 4,000 dollars on my mother, I want to be able to raise this myself and give myself the best experience possible. I know that this opportunity won't only be beneficial to me, but I will be helping people in Poland and give my family an amazing sense of pride to see what they have helped build.
With this GoFundMe , I also am working part-time at a restaurant and planning on doing some fundraising of my own with help from my family. Altogether the trip will be approximately 4,000 dollars, which includes air fare, rooms, and food. To be able to attend between the months of June and August, I will have to have the money between March and June.
Anything you are willing to give is very much appreciated and will not go unnoticed. You will not only be helping a hopeful high schooler, but you will be helping the patients I come in contact with once I begin my journey with this first step.
