SLV. Global is a voluntary organisation that was founded in 2010 by Lucy Nightingale, who joined forces with Yasintha Rathnayake to help those with mental health illnesses. As well as this being highly advantageous for the local communities in Bali, Sri Lanka and India, this organisation offers students and graduates a chance to receive hands on experience working with people who have mental health illnesses and exploring the different cultural treatments they use for patients.

I will be involved in a variety of projects such as running sessions in the psychiatric hospitals, working with people who have special needs, teaching English to the local community and exploring child development. This placement enables me to experience mental health issues from a cultural perspective. There is a lack of understanding about mental health issues here, therefore organisations like SLV. Global help support those in need due to the scarce resources available.

I chose this placement as it enables me to expand my knowledge in the mental health sector and I am able to use what I've learned in Psychology to good, practical use. In addition, this placement contributes to my career development, and I believe my passion towards caring and supporting those in need will allow me to attain the skills I desire to achieve my end goal. I am so excited to be given this opportunity to work AND travel in such a beautiful place like Bali. This is only the beginning of my journey and I would appreciate all donations given to allow me to have the full experience of Bali!
