My Travel Story

by: Dani Bernstein Start Date: May 15, 2018 - End Date: Sep 1, 2018
There are a few things you may know about me. If I were to guess, #1 would be my love of travel. If you're aware of that than #2 is easy to guess as well: my goal of experiencing all 50 states before I turn 30 (December 7th, OF THIS YEAR!) If you REALLY know me, you'll know that 2018 hasn't been the easiest year. With personal illness jeopardizing my ability to participate in a NOLS program that was 5+ years in the making, making it to the program just to be ripped away due to a family emergency having to self evacuating through avalanche terrian in Teton Valley and coming home to deal with one of the most difficult experiences yet. It is amazing how much you can emotionally and mentally deal with while thrown into the fire, but recently, with the embers of crisis finally losing their heat, it's been a completely different type of strength dealing with all the ashes that remain. As much as I refused to admit the impact these past few months since the new year have had on me, I finally made the bold decision to get back to my happy place. Some of you may be able to relate, some may not. To me, there is nothing more sootheing than change. (I didn't get the nickname "gypsy" for mere fun). Change, especially combined with the great outdoors and periods of solitude, is truly my religion. It reminds me I can be self-sufficient, it brings me to be more purposeful and present, and it brings me healing and peace. I ask of you today to consider aiding my month long journey to complete my goal of all 50 before 30. A dream that manifested itself on my first cross country road trip when I moved out to Colorado, in December, alone. I realized how amazing the United States is (yes, even those fly over states) and how great of an opportunity I had to experience the vast difference in landscapes, that seemed to mirror the vast shift that was created as I rolled along. I welcome any and all advice for what to see, do, eat, hike, swim, in all the states I must hit but those along the path as well. I hope you follow along on my journey and finalizing one major item on my bucketlist and in my heart.

  • MY FRIENDS ARE AMAZING!

Yesterday was a big day! I received 3 donations from 3 people I have met in 3 different stages of my life. Again, even BEYOND the money, the words and praises I've received from everyone so far, has been truly the greatest part. I guess some of y'all don't think I'm so crazy after all!

Thanks again to Mike for kicking this thing off with the first donation!

And thank you to Alex, who's donation has funded my travel from WI to IN!

And Josh, who's donation has funded my travel from IN to KY!

And my love, brother neophile, Scooty Scoot Scoot, who's donation has funded my travel from KY to MO to AR to OK to KS!

Can't wait to hit the road and dedicate each state to y'all! Thank you!
  • FIRST DONATION!

I JUST GOT MY FIRST DONATION! Seriously so cool to have support from my friends and fam. (Though I know some of ya'll think I'm crazy) I just received a $50.00 donation and wanted to break down how AWESOME that is.

$50.00 = 1.5 tanks of gas for the Gypsy Wagon
1 tank of gas = approx. 400 highway miles
    1.5 x 400 = approx. 600 miles of my journey

$50.00 gets me from Frederick, MD to WISCONSIN - state #40 !!!

Any amount gets me one step closer to conquering my goal! SO THANK YOU.
