Chay Lap Farmstay

Chay Lap Farmstay is a part of the Oxalis family. We adhere closely to their core values of economical sustainability, environmental conservation and community involvement. Chay Lap was developed from a community project, with the goodwill of creating jobs for local people who used to earn their living in the jungle illegally.
Chay Lap Farmstay now employs over 60 people and 90% of them are local. Not only are we impacting the community with employment opportunities, we are creating an environment for personal development and the chance for local people to develop their own small businesses to cater to the needs of the tourists that we are bringing to the area and sending out into the surrounding villages.

My job at Chay Lap Farmstay
I am Mo, 29 years old. After two and a half years working at Oxalis tour team as a Sales Executive, I was assigned to move to Chay Lap Farmstay as a Sales and FO Manager. It is really a meaningful but responsible task which aims to improve customer service quality and achieve the sales target. I am fully aware that the only incredible customer service can help.

Difficulties in working at Chay Lap Farmstay
It is not an easy task. The first difficulty must be my shortage of experience and hospitality professional education. I have been working for more than 2 years in tourism industry but Chay Lap is the first place allowing me to work in hospitality. Though my own customer service has been highly appreciated; I still need professional basis, not only by instinct.

Also, 90% of staff here are local. As a consequence of poverty, they are lack of proper education and professional skills. Although they are very friendly and nice, the staffs are still looking forward to a good leader to train them and to make a change.

How to fix problems

With a big heart for this lovely place and super nice people, I give myself a mission of making a change. Now as a key person at the workplace, my task is to improve the customer service and help them to improve the personal skills. Although Chay Lap staffs and I are trying our best to learn by ourselves, the real practice is still so valuable to us. I was so happy to find that World Internship will allow me to work abroad in short term to learn from them. However, the fee is too high to me to afford. I have to pay at least $5,590 for 6 weeks, not to mention airfare, visa fee and insurance cost. The amount is still too big for the company.

Therefore, I am raising the fund here wishing you to lend us a hand to fund my trip to Italy in this October. Italy seems the only country that provides Hospitality internship, where I can learn the customer service professionally. I believe that the internship there will broaden my horizon of hospitality, enrich my knowledge and experience so that I can come back and make a better Chay Lap Farmstay, where more than 60 local people waiting for me to give them a sustainably better lives.

I believe that the success of Chay Lap farmstay will give us a hope for sustainable development in a poor land in particular and in many other remote villages in Vietnam.

Thank you in advance!
