My Travel Story

by: Chelsea Musick Start Date: Mar 7, 2016 - End Date: Mar 6, 2017
As you all know C.A.R.E. is very important to me, after spending a year living there the baboons have becoming a very huge part of my life, and I want to do everything in my power to ensure they have what they need.

PrimateCare: Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education is a non-profit organization founded in 1939 by Rita Miljo. C.A.R.E. is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of Chacma Baboons, in South Africa. Located in Phalaborwa, SA C.A.R.E. is currently run by Managing Director Stephen Munro, and Assistant Director Samantha Dewhirst, who work tirelessly to make sure that all of the baboons are looked after on a daily basis. C.A.R.E. takes in orphaned babies, and with the help of a temporary human surrogate, beings the process of integrating them to a new baboon mother, many of the orphans that come in are often traumatized from the act being orphaned, often by farmers poisoning the troop, being hunted for sport, or to be kept as a pet. Once these orphans are part of a troop, they being the rehabilitation phase and are on their way to FREEDOM!!!

C.A.R.E. is always in need of new supplies, as enclosures are cleaned daily to keep the baboons happy and healthy, they go through supplies QUICKLY! I am staring this fundraiser to help C.A.R.E. buy supplies that are needed for daily at C.A.R.E. anything from nappies, bottles, and teats for the orphans, to scrub brushes, buckets, brooms, and bleach for cleaning enclosures! The money will also go to helping provide enrichment for the Sanctuary baboons as well as the troops, and clinic patients! Enrichment is absolutely VITAL to the mental health of the baboons, as well as to teach natural foraging behaviors!

Important items needed are:

This is just a short list of things that are used daily at C.A.R.E. you can find the complete wish list on their website www.primatecare.org.za under "how to help" your support is essential to the survival of C.A.R.E. and the baboons, as the centre is run off of generous donations, and dedicated volunteers!
