My Travel Story

by: Shelby Tittle Start Date: Feb 4, 2020 - End Date: Jun 2, 2020
In 1970, the rhino population had dropped to 70,000, and now there are less than 30,000 remaining in the wild. This is the result of poaching incidents and a loss of habitat for the rhinos. Many rhinos live in sanctuaries where they can be protected from poaching and have a guaranteed place to call home.

I have always wanted to complete a mission trip, but could never really find one that I loved. I learned about rhino endangerment within the last year and I have been following the issue very closely ever since. I've watched from afar on instagram, reading the stories of the rhinos that get rescued, and their recovery stories. It really gives me hope to see people dedicating their lives to helping these amazing creatures and others.

I am so happy and excited to be able to take part in the conservation efforts by volunteering for a week in September/October of 2020 in South Africa! I will be traveling to the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary to assist in the feeding, cleaning, and maintaining of the rhinos and other animals at the sanctuary. This is really something I have been dreaming of being able to do for quite some time now.

This will be my first volunteering trip and any financial donation would be greatly appreciated! Your donation will go directly to the trip and funding the mission of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary. My goal is to reach $1,000 in donations, for any and all donations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for reading!
