I want to participate in the Rustic Pathways program because I want adventure and memories that will last beyond my lifetime. I barely get to travel outside of my town, maybe a few times for school events but that’s all. My family has struggled with money ever since I could remember; consequently, I haven’t gotten to experience many things others have. I go to a High School that is mostly populated by privileged kids. Pretty much everyone gets to travel, I see it on their social media and I feel left out. They get new experiences and discoveries while I am at home.

During the summer I work as a swim instructor, this job has taught me numerous social skills and how to tackle many responsibilities. I love teaching kids and feeling like I made a positive impact in their life. Most of the money I acquire is used to buy clothes and other items most people take for granted. I feel like travel would free me from the worries of home life and help me find who I really am.

Travel also gives you a first-hand look at how the world changes every day; I wish to see it before humans wreck it beyond repair. With present-day technologies most First World citizens don't realize the earth is full of natural wonders; the more people who understand why we need to protect our planet, the greater chance we have to save it for future generations to discover.

The experiences I hope to gain by traveling the world will be mainly positive but I may encounter negative ones. These experiences would turn into stories that will help me gain knowledge of the world around me. I will tell these life-changing stories to others and hopefully, they will inspire others to help a good cause and see it for themselves. When I get back home from my journey, I hope to have a new perspective on life. I have the intention to expand what I learned to my life at home.

I want to help as many people as I can and be a positive influence in their life; however, the earth’s population has more than just people, animals have a huge connection to how we live. Everyone should fight to keep animals from going extinct because they keep a natural balance. Animals thrived without the intervention of humans and now we are drowning them in our waste. I believe every small action lends a helping hand. If you see trash lying on the ground, throw it away or recycle it and little by little, we can all make the planet a more beautiful place.
