My Travel Story

by: Amanda Clevinger Start Date: Sep 25, 2017 - End Date: Sep 24, 2018
After years of close friendship and both saying "I wish you were here," Amanda decided to look up plane tickets to see her dear friend Dana in Ukraine. What she saw shocked her. They were actually not that expensive. There was no second thought, she immediately pitched the idea to Dana, who immediately said, "My parents will love you! I am going to feed you so many dumplings!" Being a Virginian, the mention of dumplings sealed the deal for Amanda.

With the help of friends and family, we're going to make this a reality. While saving up on our own is definitely happening, any extra monetary support is greatly appreciated and welcomed! Amanda is chronically ill and on disability, and Dana is an overworked and underpaid English teacher.

Our timeframe for travel is simply Some Time In 2018, once Amanda can afford a passport, plane tickets, and travel funds for during the trip. We have been through many highs and lows together, are huge parts of each other's support system, and simply, we are really close friends who love each other very much and want to spend some time together instead of being separated by computer screens and thousands of miles.

Amanda wears glasses, lives in Virginia, and has a giant bunny named Ginger. She is the social media manager for Rabbit Advocates, a rabbit rescue nonprofit in Portland, Oregon. Dana lives in Ukraine, speaks 4 languages, and collects succulents. She is also a freelance translator and a part time English teacher at Rozumka Child Development Center in Chernihiv, Ukraine.
