Hi! My name is Caitlyn, I am a student from Washington state studying at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. I am currently a Sophomore and will graduate with a BA in Political Science in a minor in History in Spring 2018. I have always had a love for travel, and studying abroad has been a dream of mine since I was a child. When trying to decide where to spend my next semester (a very difficult task, I might add) I decided that based upon my interests Greece would make the biggest impact on my studies. It is the homeland of Democracy, afterall, and arguably has the richest history of any modern country. Not to mention the beautiful coast line and fantastic food. I chose the College Year in Athens program because of their reputation for out-of-the-classroom work and educational trips through the country.

While abroad I hope to volunteer or intern, possibly with the large refugee population. I also hope to use the opportune location to travel Eastern Europe. On my list are: Istanbul, Bucharest, Belgrade, and Sarajevo. This is an opportunity that I probably won't get again. Although the cost of studying in Greece will be less than at my home institution, I still have a large difference between my financial aid and cost of tution. I understand the profound difference living in a foreign country and experiencing a different culture can have on someone, and hope to use my time abroad to grow not only as a student but a person as well.
