In June 2018 I will be spending five weeks doing Mental Health Placement in Sri Lanka with SLV! Thanks to SLV, we can help the communities in Sri Lanka to improve people's self-esteem and give them more human contact with their daily lives. The organisation helps people with mental illnesses and allows psychology students, like me, to get experience to work with people with special needs.

In Sri Lanka, the opportunities to help mentally ill are not the same as we have in the Western countries. There are only a few psychologists in Sri Lanka. Hence the standard method to take care of these people is medication. I want to be able to make a difference in this situation, so I am keen on doing as much as I can with my five weeks in Sri Lanka. I am super excited to have this opportunity, which I know will make a difference to the people I meet and to me.

During the five weeks, I will be able to help individuals with their special needs to learn how to live a happy life! To do this, I will arrange workshops for people with special needs, which includes organising activities made for their individual needs. My typical week will consist of spending time with children teaching them English and help them to learn new skills. I will also work one day in a week in a psychiatric unit in a clinical setting or the community helping people with their recovery. With all this, I will gain so much valuable experience and have the opportunity to get closer to my dream of working in the field of psychology.
This five weeks will not just be helping the people in Sri Lanka; it will also help me to improve my abilities to help others, teach me about how other cultures deal with mental health issues and encourage me to face new challenges!

Any donation, big or small is hugely appreciated! I want to thank you for taking the time to read and a MASSIVE thank you for the donations.
