My Travel Story

I've always dreamed of studying abroad in college. Now I'm at a university with premier abroad opportunities, and I've been accepted into my dream program -- Boston University's summer Shanghai Internship Abroad. I went for the internship because I wanted to take on and experience actually living and working in a foreign country, and I believe Shanghai is a great place to do so as a major global financial hub. I would be completing an internship in business, though internship placement occurs closer towards the program, so I cannot share the exact details of my internship.

This experience would also be significantly meaningful to me as a Chinese adoptee. I was adopted at 2 years of age from Kunming, China, and have visited the country once for my 12th birthday. During that time, I visited the orphanage that I stayed in, my foster parents who took care of me, and the market I was found at. Even though that was 8 years ago, it had a profound impact that stays with me today. I feel that going back on this internship abroad program presents another opportunity to connect with my birth country in a different and meaningful way -- this time living and working there. That is why this abroad opportunity means so much to me.

However, I don't have enough funds to support this opportunity. Since the program takes place during summer, financial aid is not applied. I work several part time jobs along with a rigorous courseload and use that money to fund my studies at my university. My family cannot assist in covering the costs either since they were laid off from their jobs last year and are still actively searching. I was able to get a small grant and have been looking for other scholarship opportunities for study/intern abroad but have not seen many I qualify for. That's why I'm running this campaign, and I greatly appreciate any help. I look forward to giving back to my supporters through sharing updates on my experience too!

This is my first time using the platform, but I fully intend to give back to my supporters. I will be linking a Google Form here soon to help you receive your rewards. Please note that if you are interested in any of the rewards, you will have to provide information via the Google Form in order to receive them. Donation amounts mean you are eligible for the reward, but I cannot guarantee them if I do not have the necessary information. If you wish to remain anonymous and still want to receive rewards, fill out the fields you are comfortable with on the Google Form -- for the most part, all I would need is an email to deliver most of the rewards. Note it will take some time to receive the rewards as the program starts late June. But you can always feel free to reach out to me personally as well, I'd love to hear from you!
