My Travel Story

by: Hadia Andar Start Date: Nov 20, 2017 - End Date: Feb 9, 2018
In a month I will be heading off to Montreal to study Computer Science abroad in Concordia University for the Winter 2018 semester! I'm extremely excited but very nervous: the trip will cost around $12,000. I'm saving as much money as I can, but donations are very much appreciated (I've budgeted high just to be safe)!

I work a part-time job and I'm very frugal about my spending, only spending money on my commute to school and my school tuition. Living at home has helped me save a lot of money, and I'm very grateful for that. My family is also not well-off financially and so we always keep our spendings close to home.

I am not someone who gives up when things get hard and shrink away from the challenge; I enjoy challenging myself to do things that I have never done before. Studying abroad will be an amazing opportunity for me to go out of my comfort zone in a whole different country.  I'm very very excited to learn and become part of the Quebec culture; I've started to study some French so I can connect with the locals there. I have also never lived in a place that snows!

In Concordia, I will be taking computer science classes for my major, making international connections with peers and professors, and expanding my worldview. As a woman of color, I know I can make a big impact in the computer science world; I aim to be an inspiration to everyone who is trying to reach their dreams that they can do it! I will forever be grateful to anyone to helps to support my journey. Any amount donated is very much appreciated!
