My Travel Story

by: Genevieve Murphy-Skilling Start Date: Oct 4, 2016 - End Date: Jan 11, 2017
Hello!
My name is Genevieve and I'm on the path to becoming a wildlife biologist. My dream has always been to work with animals, and following being accepted to vet school I've come to realize that I can best do that by doing field research to help conservation efforts. My trip to Nepal will be through ProjectsAbroad.org , and will be a 12-week journey into the Himalayas of Nepal. There, I will be researching flora and fauna, tracking migration patterns, and helping to preserve local biodiversity.

My hope is to leave for this amazing opportunity by February 25th of 2017.

Though this is the least expensive program I could find, I wanted to fundraise to make this trip lengthy enough to be worthwhile. The difference between ecotourism and making a real difference comes with duration of the stay, and I feel that in 2 months I may be able to make a lasting impression. With your help, I can work to conduct research and compare it to a 2013 survey that was taken before people settled the area. This is uniquely suited as a research station as there are very few places that are uninhabited by humans.
I would greatly appreciate any help you can give, big or small, to this cause. I'm so excited to start my life as a field biologist!

    Spring Trekking
    Hey everyone!
I just found out that I will be going during one of the best times of the year. During the January(winter)- March(spring) months, there will be light snowfall in the Himalayas, giving forth to blooming rhododendron forests!
These are beautiful trees as tall as full-grown oaks that display breathtaking red flowers. The plants will also be a part of my ecological studies during my stay, as well as the best place to go on a hike that I've ever seen.
