My Travel Story

I will be travelling through South America with a friend, beginning in Columbia. The trip is multi-faceted for me- to experience other cultures and meet people as well as to embolden my media portfolio.

We are passionate about expanding our cultural horizons and are enamored with the people and lifestyles in many south american countries. We chose Columbia as a starting place do to the vast cultural differences in close proximity. Bogata, Cali, Medellin, etc all have unique experiences to offer. We will backpack throughout the continent as well as hold odd jobs to supplement income and make the most of our time there. This is more than a quick trip to see the geography. It is intended to be a lifestyle change to predominantly focus on travel and new experiences as a way of life. Neither of us are content with traditional American life- starting a family, working 9-5 and paying bills. I have made the mistake of moving to a small town to help family and settling. This mistake has led to a small amount of debt and the handcuffing nature of contracts and investments. I am working to dissolve all of these obligations and return to a life of limited consumption and cheap living. However, I have found it difficult to do so and also gather the funds I need to begin this new life. It was my mistake and I'll claim those actions. This is why assistance in travel is important. I'd like to reverse these actions and travel while the opportunity is available.

The other aspect of my trip is designed to grow my media portfolio to help establish a career in media- predominantly photojournalism, video production and design. My proposed trip is an exemplary way to do so. Not only will I be able to pursue my dreams of travelling and embracing new culture, I will gather raw materials for a film of the journey and images to illustrate my abilities to bolster my portfolio. This will help me further my career- and the subject matter there could not be more perfect.

The diversity of landscapes, people and cultures are phenomenal throughout South America. The opportunity to explore and participate, and to capture it all along the way, is a personal dream of mine. It is a life changing endeavor and I am willing to do anything to achieve this goal. To gain new perpectives. To learn what the world has to offer and to hopefully change the lives of others. To publish a film that shows the value of diversity in a time where so much hatred and closed-minded views exist. I want to become a part of something bigger and stop this path of settling before it consumes me. Further, any chance I have to show others what good exists in the world is worth it. If I can show one person that we are all the same or eliminate their prejudices, then my efforts will not be in vain. I am also willing to contribute back to anyone who donates, in any way I can.
