My Travel Story

by: Amber Dillingham Start Date: Oct 31, 2016 - End Date: Oct 30, 2017
I am a teacher in Ashe County, North Carolina. I want to help sponsor 1 or more students who recieve free or reduced lunch to go with us to Ireland and Scotland in June 2018. It is my personal goal to be able to help at least one, if not more, students go on a life-altering trip despite the cost. In a place as small as Ashe county, it is important for students to know that there is a world outside of Ashe county, North Carolina, and the United States. It is important for them to know that we are part of a global network of nations and that they are a global citizen, not just a US citizen.
Facts:
  • The median household income in 2014 in Ashe county is $34,854–$38,318 according to the cencus bureau.
  • 20.1% of Ashe county's residents fall below the poverty line according to the cencus bureau.
  • Ashe county population estimates as of July 1, 2015: 27,020 according to the cencus bureau.
  • For the 2011-2012 school year,  75.6% of students recieve free or reduced lunch according to the App Health Care.
