Hello, my name is Alea Hamby and I am a 9th grade student from Orange County, California. This year (my first year of high school) I decided to take an alternate path in my education, so  I switched from public school to online school. But why? I decided to take this leap into the unknown in order to be able to have more  opportunities and flexibility in my life. I have always been a highly-achieving student, and I felt that spending hours in school only held me back. Outside of school, I am interested in entrepreneurship, acting, and filmmaking. I have already started working in these areas. I have created my own t-shirt store, done scout film for athletic teams, and edited videos (all for profit). Creatively, I have made several video projects, including scientific tutorials and a book-based trailer. Also, I have been taking acting classes and have a showcase in January that I am working toward currently.

I have recently been presented with a huge opportunity. The opportunity is to travel to Europe for two weeks in summer, on a teen travel program (I will attach the link to the website). I would be going to Berlin, Paris, and London on the trip. This is a huge opportunity for me to better my education and cultural knowledge. I have studied Spanish for four years and am currently studying French. Going to Europe would be a way for me to immerse myself in a plethora languages, and gain a better understanding of the various cultures. This would also be a way for me to gain knowledge of the history of Europe, since we will be going to museums and important historical monuments. This trip will teach me a lot about independence and self-sufficiency (which is important for me to learn because of my education situation). If you have any questions regarding the trip, feel free too ask!

I decided to set up funding pages, since my parents cannot pay for such an expensive program. Also, raising money will be a good way for me to learn about working and applying for scholarships. To that point, I will also be funding this trip by working in every way I can (i.e. babysitting, editing videos, or anything else I can do). I will also be fundraising and applying for scholarships. I am raising money for airfare, tuition, ground travel, foods and beverages, and any additional costs. I will do as much as I can to raise the money on my own, but help from my friends and family is still much needed and appreciated. I do not intend on raising all the money solely through funding pages, but anything helps.

If I do make it to Europe, there are some things that I plan to do for any donators. First, I will be documenting my entire trip on posting it online, and including a list of names and thank-you messages to people that donate in the video. This is a way for me to share my experiences with everyone. Also, I will be sending a personalized postcard with a thank-you message to everyone that donates.

Any amount of money helps, and there is no minimum for receiving the postcard or video message. If you cannot donate money, you can help by sharing this link and the link to my other campaigns on any social media or by sending the links to anyone you think could help.

This is such an amazing opportunity for me and I am so lucky to have the chance to have this adventure. Again, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask. Thank you all so much for your support!
