My Travel Story

by: Sophie Bales Start Date: Mar 10, 2017 - End Date: Sep 25, 2017
Hi Everyone! My name is Sophie Bales and I am currently attending Jamestown University in North Dakota. I am an exercise science major with a minor in psychology. I have a passion for sports, adventures, and seeing new places. I am planning on studying abroad through Semester at Sea on their Spring 2018 Voyage. This is an amazing opportunity and a once in a lifetime chance. This will help with my future by making me become a student of the world and learn to help and cooperate well with others. I will not only be taking classes aboard the ship, but taking field classes in the places that I travel to and will be working first hand with the people of that country. I will be participating in in-country sport activities and visiting local schools, temples, sanctuaries, etc. I will be able to complete a full semester of classes on board, while also having the opportunity to apply what I'm learning in class to real life situations around the world.

This is a learning opportunity of a lifetime. There’s a piece deep within each of us that draws us to explore. When our adventures are matched with opportunities of higher education, the value of the experience grows, in the same way travel swells the heart. Travel and education cause the mind, body, and soul to develop in unison and balance more fully. Why I am so willing to spend so much money on roughly 4 months of my life is because it makes every cell in my body jump, excites me, pumps life into every dark crevice of my brain. This idea consumes and inspires me all at the same time.

The shot at an occasion like this is so remarkable and I am so truly blessed to even be able to consider this amazing opportunity. With each donation, I draw closer to my goal. I am determined to make this happen and hope you can help me out. Even if the total is not met, do not think your donation goes unappreciated! I know that it takes baby steps to make a dream, and with your help I really do believe and hope this can become a reality.

Thank you,
Sophie Bales
