My Travel Story

by: Kira Neu Start Date: Nov 19, 2016 - End Date: Feb 26, 2017
What makes the biggest impact on your travel experiences? The people! There is hundreds of travel blogs and youtube channels out there, telling their creator's adventures. Some are about food and some are about nature. But what about the people we meet? The strangers that make travel perfect?

Growing up, it was my biggest dream to run away from home and travel the world. Christopher McCandles was my hero, Leif from "The Runaway Guide" my idol. But traveling for a living seemed impossible. There was no way I could ever afford that. That's how many people feel - as if travel is unachievable.
I took the leap regardless and with 19 I collected what I had earned in the previous three years and packed my stuff.

What I found in the following months of travel was incredible - there are hundreds of nomads. Some have been on the road for months and others for decades. And in spite of what I thought, they're not all rich entrepreneurs and bloggers. But they still travel the world, in ways I never dreamt of before. This is where this project comes in: I want to share the stories of the beautiful people I meet and show how others can make a life of travel possible. It is a shame how many people are held back by the thought that travel is either expensive or only for entrepreneurs and digital nomads. I want to start a Youtube channel with videos of the people I meet on the road and their stories, tips and inspirations. Had I known how many options there are to travel the world, my approach would have been totally different.

At this moment, I'm still on the road and have no plans to stop. Currently, I volunteer at a school in Thailand, where we teach underprivileged kids English, so they have better job opportunities. At the same time, I work as a freelancer. However, the money is not enough to afford any equipment for videos. I have a DSLR, but it's 10 years old and is not able to record video. Ultimately, I want to spend a month or two kickstarting this project and investing as much time and effort as I can, which means I have to free up some time that I currently spend working online.

Phew, you made it through the wall of text! Thank you for taking your time to read this. I would be immensely grateful if you could donate for this project and help make this dream into a reality. However small or big the amount is, it's a huge help. However, if you can't do that, keep your eyes peeled for The Perfect Stranger on youtube and the web. Feel free to let me know what you think about my idea and share your travel story!
