My Travel Story

My reason for traveling to Florence, Italy with Performing Arts Abroad is for a Music Internship. There, I will acquire excellent mentorship in one of the main origins of western music. This will advance my own and my future students musicianship skills. I envision myself learning one-on-one with an excellent percussion instructor who is passionate and looks forward to teaching open-minded young percussionists who also want to share the power of music.

A little bit about me:

I began taking private percussion lessons with Doug Smith, the previous timpanist of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, when I was 8 years old. I first began learning the snare drum, which integrated into learning the drum set when I was 12 years old. By that time, I started having to transfuse my previous 4 years of learning the basic fundamentals of drumming into self-teaching, since I no longer had a private instructor, due to various reasons. When I was 14 years old I was awarded ‘Outstanding Middle School Soloist’ at the “I-19 Jazz Festival”. It wasn’t until high school, when I began learning keyboard mallet instruments and the timpani. I was not as dedicated to mallet percussion compared to the drum set and the snare drum. During my junior and senior year of high school I was the drumline section leader. Shortly after graduating high school, I attended Pima Community College to major in music with a focus on percussion. At this point in my life, I started to dig deeper into the marimba, xylophone, and timpani, while still putting time and effort into the drum set and snare drum. I began taking private lessons with Homero Ceron, the principal percussionist of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, when I was 19 years old I began providing private drum lessons for Guitar Center Studios in Tucson, Arizona, which eventually turned into providing my own private drum lessons from home. Now, I will be attending the University Of Arizona Fred Fox School Of Music to receive a Bachelors of Music Education. I have also been awarded three different scholarships and one grant; I will have all my undergraduate college education payed for in full, due to many years of hard work and dedication.

I would like to thank you, greatly, for taking time to read my request. I normally don’t ask for donations, but this is an opportunity that has been given to me through the University Of Arizona Fred Fox School Of Music. I’m currently a full-time student with 19 credit hours at Pima Community College and work part-time at Home Depot on the weekends. Personally, I can’t raise this money on my own, so I’m seeking out generous donations of a $10 minimum. Please share my link to your social media accounts, it would help out substantially. Note that any contributions can be used on your taxes as a contribution for your 2016 return. You will receive a receipt of your donation in your email.
