My Travel Story

I am currently studying Cultural and Literary Analysis in the University of Amsterdam with the aim of continuing with media studies and suddenly - I got the opportunity to go on an exchange semester to Melbourne, a university with a highly rated media programme, taught entirely in English and recognized worldwide! This is an amazing opportunity for me, and not just for my educational and professional development. I believe that exchanges like these are unique in broadening our horizons, teaching us what it means to be a citizen of the world, teaching us what culture and multiculture really mean in every day life!
As I am originally not from the Netherlands - but living here now and thus familiar with the theme of displacement, cultural differences and the joys and hardships of having a home away from home - diversity, empathy and community are of utmost importance for me. My aim in life is to strive towards and fight for a greater sense of community is this world, one in which the differences are not flattened out but celebrated, accepted and respected. Which is why I am, again, excited over a prospect of spending a semester in such a cultural melting pot as Melbourne.
I believe that this experience will prove to be unique for my academic, professional and personal development. I am motivated and willing to work hard for this to come true for me!
A quick word about why I have started a fundraiser - Australia is famously expensive, and I am unfortunately in a position where I fund myself alone. I am financing my studies here in Amsterdam by working and receiving also a student support from the government. Together they nicely cover my tuition, living expenses, and have enabled me to save enpugh for the visa for Australia, the insurance, and the travel expenses. What makes my situation a bit tricky is that I will not be receiving any student support once I am on exchange because my nationality is not Dutch, nor do I qualify for many scholarships because of the same reason - the bureocratic difficulties of being s foreign student. The majority of my financing will come from me working as hard as I can while in Melbourne, and the rest - creativity and belief!
I am motivated, and a hard worker, and I know that with great input and perhaps a bit of help from you, I am able to finance this amazing exchange of a lifetime!
