Bolivia Bound!
My Travel Story
My name is Kayla Orrick and I am trying to raise money to finance a once in a lifetime study abroad opportunity to study in Bolivia.
I have always wanted to travel to South America, especially outside of a tourism context, to truly learn about the culture that exists there and immerse myself in a way of life entirely different from my own. But as a student of the School of Sustainability, this experience is even more vital to informing my education and career goals. If I intend on advocating for policy changes on how a nation should work, I should have a greater understanding of the larger global context in which it lies - a deeper understanding that can only be found in study abroad experiences.
The topic of the study abroad trip is community health and happiness within rural and urban settings throughout Bolivia. During this trip, we will learn about cultivating inner peace and contentment alongside strengthening community bonds, improving community health, and building interpersonal, problem-solving skills. I am passionate about my own meditation and mindfulness practice, and I believe the skills we will learn in cultivating internal and external sustainability will remain with me throughout the rest of my life, well beyond my college career.
