My Travel Story

I have almost completed my first year of the Veterinary Technician program. I have one more year of school and then will be completing the industry practicum wherever I choose. Instead of the conventional animal hospital or clinic, I have chosen to volunteer in South Africa with the African Conservation Experience.
Part of this decision was made based on the experience I had in 2016 volunteering on an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand. That trip is what made me believe that there is a way for me to turn my love for helping exotic animals into a career, so I began the vet tech program to persue a career in animal rescue and rehabilitation.
I have always been passionate about animals and travel, so I did my best to find a job that would incorporate both. Africa has always been my dream destination and I would love to have a chance to expand my knowledge of the land and the magnificent creatures it homes.
Being able to complete my practicum in South Africa would not only be incredibly rewarding, but also a chance for me to meet like-minded people and gain the contacts and work experience I need to help me begin my career abroad.
Conservation work is very important to me, and I hope to dedicate my education and future career toward protecting domestic and wild animals. I believe conservation is necessary to protect our environment and the wildlife we share it with. Each animal plays an important role in their ecosystems and it is my belief that we have a duty to protect them to ensure they are able to fulfill those roles.
