My name is Sequerstin Blue, and I am a junior majoring in Bank & Finance at The University of Southern Mississippi. I have the opportunity to study in Seoul, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan next summer (2018) for two weeks. This study abroad trip is a dream come true for two reasons: K-pop and anime. For several years I have listened to Korean pop music, watched Korean dramas, and variety shows. Their values, perception of beauty, and customs intrigued me. The way they act in movies, dramas, etc. is even different from how American actors act. It has been six years since I first discovered Korean pop music and been a huge fan ever since. Because of K-pop, it introduced to dramas, shows, movies which caused me to become immersed in the history and culture. As for Japan, I have been into anime since I was seven years old. It would always come on Adult Swim after Cartoon Network aired. I could rant forever on why Japanese cartoons are better than American, but that is another story. Japan is known for its weird and unique variety shows. Their openness of weirdness is admirable. It is a typical thing over there. Even though I am aware of both countries cultures, it will be different when I step foot and experience it myself. There is only so much you can learn from watching shows. There is still enough I do not know that I will experience culture shock.
