My Travel Story

by: Alicia Calladine Start Date: Feb 21, 2018 - End Date: Aug 20, 2018
In August 2018 I will be embarking on a SLV Global mental health placement in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks. This organisation helps people living with mental illness in Sri Lanka and allows students to gain valuable clinical work experience.

In Sri Lanka there is 1 psychiatrist per every 344, 827 people (WHO, 2011) even though they have the 4th highest suicide rate in the world (WHO, 2011). Clearly, Sri Lanka need our help.

During my time in Sri Lanka, I will be working on numerous projects to help people suffering from mental illness. This may include running a workshop on how to improve memory, teaching English to increase confidence and supporting people's recovery in a psychiatric hospital.

This experience will provide support for people suffering in Sri Lanka and will help me peruse my career as a clinical psychologist. The money you donate will be used fund my travel and buy resources to use in therapeutic activities.

Any donations given will be immensely appreciated.
