SLV Global Mental Health Placement in Sri Lanka
On the 9th July 2018 I will be going to Sri Lanka for 5 weeks with SLV global, this is a volunteer organisation that specifically works with those suffering from mental health problems in Sri Lanka and Bali, both of which are areas where the resources available for those living with mental illnesses are extremely scarce. This project also gives undergraduates and graduates the chance to improve on their current psychology skills with a hands-on experience in a clinical setting.
Over these 5 weeks I will be working alongside other volunteers helping individuals suffering from mental illnesses by working in psychiatric facilities, mental health care homes and working with individuals who have special needs. Alongside this I will be teaching English in the community to children who cannot afford an education and running interactive workshops helping those learn through alternative techniques that encourage creative thinking.
As this is a volunteer placement I have to fund the placement fee of £1300 myself, which goes as a donation to services in Sri Lanka, not including any travel costs. Any donations of any size are greatly appreciated, I am so grateful to be part of such a selfless organisation giving support to those in need, while building on my psychology skills for the future during this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you
