My Travel Story

by: Lili Kokai Start Date: May 10, 2017 - End Date: Sep 6, 2017
Dear Reader! First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to be here.
I am SO excited to be on the SLV Mental Health Team in Bali for four weeks this September! Mental health facilities and services are seriously lacking in the Balinese community. Through my work with SLV, I will contribute to providing accessible and sustainable support to service users. SLV, in contrast to organisations enabling “voluntourism”, respects and adapts to the local community. For example, volunteers receive training about Balinese approaches to mental health before starting work, and all volunteers live with a local family in the community.
I will be working five full days a week in, for example, psychiatric facilities with people experiencing mental health issues, as well as with people with special needs. This will not only provide me with invaluable hands-on experience as a soon-to-be qualified Psychologist, but will also contribute to improving the quality of life of service users, and to reducing stigma around mental illness in Bali.
The SLV programme receives no funding from the government; therefore, all funds raised will support the running of the programme. The programme is voluntary; I will receive no payment, and I will be paying for my own flights. Therefore, your support would be much appreciated! My fundraising goal is 2000 EUR (displayed in HUF, Hungarian Currency, above), which is the programme fee.

Thank you very much for your consideration and generosity!

PS: Let the donor rewards (on the right) inspire you! :)
