When a child reaches the age where a thought process is understood, dreams are made. Whether the dream is to become the President of The United States or to just get past the high school level, each person has set ambitions. Ever since I was young I knew I wanted to be the best I could be, from the start I wanted to be someone that could make a difference. In order to make a difference I knew my academics had to be in tact, I knew with this goal of mine I would have to study hard, never give up, and always do my best work. Throughout high school and the beginning of my college years I did this; I studied, I tried, and I put in so much effort, but something was missing. I can't be the best person I can be without the experience from the surrounding world and cultures. I want to be someone who has the ability to make a difference, and in order to do so I need to understand the diversity around the world and in each and every single person on this planet. I believe that the most important piece of knowledge to learn in school is actually what you don't learn in the set classroom. My academics are important to me and my goals in my academics are to benefit not only me, but also every person I meet along my journey of life.

My name is Sarah Kunis and just recently I was selected as 1 in about 650 students worldwide to be a part of the semester at sea voyage. I grew up in Goshen, NY and attended SAS, GIS, CJH, and GHS.  During my time in Goshen I did a lot to get myself involved, I was a dance team leader and company member at New York Dance Center, I participated in Mr. GHS and I was in The National Honor Society. In high school I took all honors classes and was always working hard, this work ethic of mine led me to where I am today.

Currently I’m studying at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL and I am a business marketing major. Studying at USF has been great for me, and I have learned so much and achieved so much along the way. Thus far throughout my journey I have held a GPA of a 3.9, I have joined and held a position in my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, and I have been apart of different learning communities. I have gained so much from USF, but there is one thing I want to gain more of, and that is cultural diversity. USF is an extremely diverse university, but its not broadening my horizons quite enough.

Semester at Sea is a voyage that is a study abroad program that travels the world via ship and ports in different countries along the way. When ported the students have the chance to go out into the world in the different countries and explore and gather and gain the most diverse knowledge possible. While at sea the students take classes that are given credit through Colorado State University, the classes taken relate and benefit to each students major of study.

Due to Semester at Sea being such a diverse and different study abroad program the cost is extremely high.  I am seeking some help in making my dreams come true. The program is about $24,000, not including the travel visas and everything else you need along the way. The cost is heavy, but the experience is rich.

I’m not asking for money so I can go to South Africa and buy a necklace, I am asking for help in my expenses so I have the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the World. Anything would help and I would be so grateful. In appreciation I am going to be keeping a blog while I’m at sea and I would love to share about the help and aid I had in my reaching my dream.

This program I am seeking is something that can change my life. This program is my chance to achieve things I didn’t even believe to be possible. I want to do this program to not only help me, but I want to do it for a change to pass on my experience to everyone that I encounter that didn’t get this amazing opportunity. I had a dream since the day I was born, and this semester at sea could potentially be my destiny. I can achieve my aspirations.
