Kenya Volunteer trip with African Adventures!
I will be working closely with the African teachers at the school to provide English lessons for the children, teaching sport and games, helping in construction of a new part of the school and visiting the slum homes of some the children that attend the school as well as the local rubbish dump of where they look for scrap metal to sell.
The school is not state run and thus receives no government funding, as a result of this they rely hugely on volunteers, like myself, to help teach and complete construction work. I will be taking part in the construction of new classrooms, so that more children will have the opportunity to learn at the school and receive an education.
I am incredibly excited about the trip. This is because it will be such an eye-opening experience meeting families that are so grateful for what they have, and children that are so thankful for the education they are receiving. I am looking forward to contributing to this. By the end of the trip I aim to have grown in confidence, widened my perspective and gained understanding of such a different culture.
I am currently fundraising to pay my way on the trip - so far I have organised car boots, Christmas fairs and Girl Guiding activity days.
