My Life on the Costa Blanca
My Travel Story
Hello everyone!
I'm starting a campaign in order to try and raise money for my study abroad experience to Alicante, Spain in August. Even if you cannot support me financially on this grand adventure, I encourage you check out my program and hope that you may be inspired to travel or study abroad yourself! Here is a little information about my program and my goals:
My study abroad program is a Language and Culture Immersion Program in Fall 2013 through CEA International. I will live with a host family for three months and attend the University of Alicante. Although my program offers independent and dormitory housing as well, I am choosing to live with a host family in order to expose myself to a maximum amount of Spanish language and in order to create an authentic cross-cultural tie with a local family. My hope is to represent my country, my program, and myself in a positive manner and to leave a lasting and constructive opinion with the people that I encounter in Spain, hoping that they will do the same for me in return.
When I return home, my trip to Spain will have helped me work towards my degree in Spanish language and Linguistics, with the intent to graduate in spring of 2014. More than that, I hope that it will prepare me to reach my professional goals in the future. These include translating for local Spanish-speaking families in situations of social welfare, promoting bilingual education, helping at-risk youth of the Hispanic population, and helping to create a bridge of knowledge and understanding of Hispanic culture in the local community in order to create diversity and combat racial hatred.
