Quick! Think of an innovative, enjoyable way to lighten up your dreadful high school years! My name is Sul-Won Yoo, and I am a 9th grade student aspiring for a chance to study abroad. I have come to realize the immense importance of the cultural diversity that came along with the entrance of high school; it became my identity in where I stood on the school scene. I have chosen to embrace these cultural differences because I believe that the leadership skills and strong independency required to immerse in different countries will prove to be beneficial to my ever-evolving academic career, the rapidly-accelerating business world, and also for the sake of self-satisfaction.

I have particularly chosen to apply for Japan for an academic year because of my Korean ethnicity. As many of you may know, Korea and Japan do not have a pleasant history with each other. However, this fact does not deter me; moreover, it motivates me to try harder and reach out as living proof of a cultural marriage between the two feuding countries.

Korea is a beloved piece of my life—from my very existence to every drop of blood that courses through my veins—yet, I do not know one bit of her history. I am ashamed to say that I am not fluent in my native language, nor do I know her heritage and traditions. I want to go to Korea and relearn my roots, my language, and perhaps my lost Korean piece of my life.

I sincerely believe that every single penny counts and I hope that I have proven myself worthy of your generous donation. Thank you, and have a nice day.
