My Travel Story

I am an Animal Science: Pre-Vet major who adores learning about animals. Everything about them including their behavior, their anatomy and physiology, and their evolutionary history is fascinating to me. I grew up in a small town in Northern New Jersey, not too far from Manhattan. During my senior year of high school, I had an internship at a veterinary clinic that treated cats and dogs. While I will never understate the value of that internship, I was only able to observe veterinary practices on small animals, and I became more curious about the treatment of larger animals. Unfortunately, due to the suburban nature of my neighborhood, I never had the opportunity to gain hands on experience with large, farm animals.

The CELA Belize program is my opportunity to see what it is like to have a career working with large farm animals. The Large Animal Veterinary Practices course in particular focuses on the husbandry and health issues of horses, cattle, pigs and sheep. Through this program, I will be exposed to information on the nutrition, anatomy and physiology, and management of these animals. More importantly, through this program I will be able to learn hands-on veterinary techniques. This program not only speaks to my interests but also is worth three college credits towards my degree! Any contribution would be immensly appreciated!
