My Travel Story

by: Natasha Smith Start Date: Aug 9, 2016 - End Date: Feb 3, 2017
In April 2017 I am travelling to Kenya for 10 nights to help support the education of children from extremely deprived backgrounds.

In many circumstances, for example in Kenya, families are surviving on as little as 80 pence per day and cannot afford to send their children to a government school.

My main project whilst in Kenya will be supporting the building work of new schools, I will be assisting with all sorts of construction work including building classrooms, kitchens and toilet blocks and helping with much-needed renovations such as laying new floors, installing running water, plastering and painting. As I am sure you can imagine this will be challenging but extremely rewarding.

One of the main positives of this project, besides the teaching, sports coaching and construction support, is the positive effect from the interaction between UK volunteers and the children. Particularly in Kenya, children’s knowledge of the English language is crucial to success when leaving school, and having the opportunity to converse with English-speaking people can be extremely useful.

This is a cause that is extremely close to my heart so I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their donations. Without your help I would not be able to try and help better the lives of these children. Every penny means so much. Thank you.
