Thank you for clicking on my campaign!

I'm Edgar, I was born in Venezuela and this is my story:

I always felt trapped in a cage back home, routines and negativity were causing a bad impact in my mental health, I just wanted to get lost on purpose and explore unknown areas to me. I was living for many years in a very nasty depression until I decided to make a change in my life back in the 2015.

I always liked to travel, but due to several things going on in Venezuela I couldn't do it anymore and I tried to stay strong, focus on my job, studies and I would get my opportunity at some point, but I was wrong. In the same year of 2015, after a long day at work in Caracas, I was on my way to the metro station and then two guys with guns confronted me and threatened me to death if I don't give away my personal belongings. I didn't refuse, but since it was the third time this was happening to me I was kind of used to getting robbed. One of the guys noticed my calmness and he shouted: "You seem like you don't care, ok then, you have 5 seconds to run for your life before I start shooting you".

I didn't want to expose myself to another situation like this, after three times having a gun on my forehead it was about time that I go some place else. I always loved Europe, specially the possibility of practicing new languages. I had the dream to move and travel to Europe, so I did, but things went wrong.

I had a job offer in Prague, CZ. I sold everything I had in Venezuela, I didn't even finish my studies (Modern languages) so I could take advantage of this opportunity I got abroad. I didn't think about it twice, the time was now. It is almost impossible in Venezuela to get USD or Euros as we have an exchange control and the only way to get them is through the black market, I sold everything I had and I only managed to get $300 in cash. Out of desperation, I asked a friend to lend me some money to pay my ticket from Venezuela to Prague and I finally made it, but after tough interviews they didn't want to choose me because "it is too hard to hire a foreigner and we didn't know".

This is the moment when my crazy experience started, I didn't want to go back just like that, I was out at last and I had a golden opportunity to travel with or without money. I became a nomad, I've visited 28 countries so far without money, only hitchhiking, volunteering myself in exchange of food and accommodation and everytime in a while busking on squares to make a bit of money for food and to pay a very small quote to my friend that helped me at the beginning. The time has come to a point where my passport is about to expire (April 2019) that means I won't be able to travel starting November of this year. I dreamed about visiting every country I could in Asia to learn, to expose myself to the last and most valuable experience in my life.

I've been working for hotels for many years, learning new languages and meeting so many nationalities helped me to achieve a new level of respect, understanding and appreciation towards others. I want to spread this word, I want to help others to appreciate what they have, to be grateful, to enjoy as much as they can because there are some others that are not privileged with some things many others give for granted.

This travel is not entirely about myself, I want to help others to get rid of their depression, to inspire others to travel, to gather as much knowledge and experiences I can to open my own hostel, my own school, to finish my book about all my experiences gathered together and simply spread the love... and the good vibes!

As a Venezuelan citizen, I'm not allowed to get a proper job while travelling, that's why I need your support to continue and I promise, everything will be extremely well appreciated in my records, in my creations because I do this to cause a small impact on others, I want everyone to feel happy and grateful... maybe it sounds impossible but I want to try my best.

The money is mainly for visas as most of asian countries are asking me for visas and these can be expensive. It will be long but short trip until November, when my possibility to travel will simply shut down as I have no legal residence anywhere and it is not possible for me to return to get a new passport. Time will tell what is going to happen to me, but in the meantime, I want to fulfill every single goal I have.
