Hi!

My name is Ellie. I am a psychology student at the University of Portsmouth. On 24th July 2017, after graduation, I will be going to Sri Lanka to do a 5 week mental health placement. This experience will be absolutely vital for me to get my foot in the door for my career as a clinical psychologist.

I will be going over there with SLV, a voluntary graduate led organisation that started in 2010. Whilst I'm there I will be working with people with a range of mental health issues, spending half a day each week in a psychiatric facility and half a day at a rehabilitation centre. I'll be running therapeutic activities for patients and attending workshops run by Samutthana, the King’s College London resource centre for trauma, displacement and mental health. A big part of their work there is to respond to the needs of trauma sufferers resulting from both the devastating effects of the 2004 tsunami and the civil war. I'll also be involved in working with people with special needs and teaching English to children on the other days.

Link to their website for more information: SLV

Over the next year I will be fundraising to get the money to cover the cost of flights and my own living costs whilst I'm there. I will be living with a local family and other volunteers to keep the costs as low as possible.

Please consider donating as much or as little as you like. For those of you that donate, you will be able to see where your money was spent as I will be blogging about my experiences there.

Thanks in advance for your support :)

xx
