My Travel Story

by: Anna Whitelaw Start Date: Mar 12, 2016 - End Date: Nov 12, 2016
From February 2017, my friend Rhona and I are planning a trip to Africa to do volunteering work for a charity in The Gambia called Africa BEEcause, a non-profit organisation that promote beekeeping as a way of improving the lives of mainly the rural poor in the area. This charity does not only help the rural poor of The Gambia, but also encourages increase of the bee population, which is crucial for pollination, and is extremely important due to the worldwide bee crisis we face. We also plan to travel to Kenya and apply for a placement through projects abroad, which could involve anything from teaching English in primary schools, to getting involved with wild endangered animal protection. By doing this, we both hope to broaden our horizons and gain some amazing life experience that will hugely benefit us in later life. Although we plan to host fundraising events, any donations would be very much appreciated, because due to flights, accommodation and the cost of the project we hope to do in Kenya, it will be very expensive. Thank you very much for your generosity! :-)
