My Travel Story

This campaign is being used to fund my study abroad trip to Malaysia. I have the opportunity to go on a 21 day faculty led trip to the beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur. I will meet with organizations such as the United Nations High Commission on Refugees and International Organization for Migration who are working to the protect and ensure wellbeing of groups who are fleeing for safety and being resettled in the U.S. as their new home. I will meet with agency staff and other professionals, to observe field operations and hear from refugee community representatives. I will also learn about Burmese refugees in Malaysia. The Burmese refugee population in Malaysia includes a large group of which are either Rohingya Muslims or Christian Chin who suffer routine discrimination and abuse by the Burmese government.

The refugee and immigrant communities is one that I have a passion for. Around the world there are people looking for a safe haven in other countries because they have been exilied or in other cases their home countries are uninhabitable. Going to Malaysia will allow me to see from the begining, how immigrants/refugees begin their process to get to the US. I will be able to take what I learned and apply this knowledge the agencies I will be working with when I graduate. 

Like I said in the video this is my last chance to study abroad in college as an undergraduate student. I want to take advantage of the opportunity being presented to me and I can only do that with your help.
