Hi there! Most of you will know me, but for those who may not, my name is Emily and I'm off to volunteer in Sri Lanka for 6 weeks in November/December with SLV. I'm going to be doing a level 1 mental health placement, working on projects in and with the local community of Colombo, teaching, and spending 1 day a week in a psychiatric facility. I feel this placement will really help in furthering my career as a clinical psychologist (I have just graduated from Royal Holloway with a BSc in Psychology) as it will give me hands on experience in this area, helping me gain real world knowledge and enabling me to apply what I have learnt at university to the real world. These placements make a real difference in the community of Colombo, providing projects for local people to get involved in, teaching them new skills and providing help to those who need it the most. I will work my hardest to make a real contribution to the SLV team and the local community in this placement, putting all my efforts into everything I get involved with whilst I'm out there. I am truly passionate about this placement because it is in a field that I have learnt about and worked hard in for a number of years now and want to continue with in the future. I am also passionate about it because I will be able to provide real help to the people out there and also teach them new things that they can apply in their everyday lives. So please help me in whatever way you can because, although this will be an amazing experience, it does not come cheap! Thank you :)
