My Travel Story

by: Laura McNamee Start Date: Nov 18, 2025 - End Date: May 17, 2026
Hello! My name is Laura, I'm an unpaid carer, and I have a rare opportunity of 3-4 weeks' respite cover, which I hope to spend travelling (after some much-needed rest!). The person I care for has complex needs and severely restricted mobility, and I am typically spending 60 hours a week tending to them at their home. We are hoping to get a care plan put in place, but for now, I am running on empty, and my social life has taken a hit. I would love to get a change of scenery, meet new people, have some adventures and make fond memories. I love exploring new countries, cultures, and spiritual sites, and I am currently researching places I might go. It has long been my dream to go to Japan - ever since being given a brochure about Hokkaido as a little girl. Depending on how much I can raise, I would dearly love to spend as much time travelling around Japan as possible, and take in some of the scenic hiking trails, such as the Nakasendo Way. It is one of the more expensive destinations, and I have also been looking at similar trips around Indochina (I have never had the opportunity to visit Asia, so anywhere I can get to will be a dream come true). The tour company I book through, G Adventures, is highly responsible, employs local guides, and invests funds in local community projects, so your donation will further contribute to these projects. I would be eternally grateful for any and all contributions to help me get this much needed break and fulfil a long-standing dream of mine. Please know that if I should meet my target, I fully intend to pay this forward to people in a similar predicament, at such times as I am able, so your contributions will continue to have added impact. Thank you so much for your attention and support. Laura.
