Our group from Samford University Theatre is setting out on what will be the trip of a lifetime. We are taking a play titled The Curious Savageto the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland before heading to London for 10 days.

While in London, we will take part in a staged reading of an original play at Westminster Hall. The play, written by our theatre department chair Mark Castle, is being read in the hall in which the court case it portrays took place and is part of a UNESCO celebration of the end of slavery.Because of gifts from donors, the department has been able to keep the cost of the 24-day trip around $4,100 including airfare.

With help from my family, I have paid for the actual trip, but I am asking for financial help with expenses such as food, theatre tickets, attractions, and souvenirs. As a friend or family member, any help that you can give me will help me enjoy this time abroad. We will have our breakfasts provided in Scotland, but weare responsible for all of our other meals. Even a $10 donation will offset the cost of one of the 58 meals not covered by the trip. While in London, we will have the opportunity to see world-class productions in the West End or at the National Theatre as well as visit St. Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, and the Tower of London. All of these experiences will cost us money, and I would like to enjoy as many as possible.

This is where you can help. I have set up a FundMyTravel.com website to provide an easy way to donate. If you are inclined to help, a prepaid Mastercard that is approved for international usage (most prepaid Visa cards are for domestic use only) is also an option. British pounds are also available for exchange at some banks. Also, If you are interested in sponsoring the entire group to go to dinner or a play, please contact David Glenn, a faculty member going with us, at djglenn@samford.edu.
