Ali & Hillary Go to Kenya
My Travel Story
Hillary & I have grown up together - no really, we shared the same bus stop & sports teams for 7 years. Our lives, similar personalities, interests & ambitions have always been pretty parallel. Makes it no surprise we both became nurses - more specifically, travel nurses at that! Two girls from the same neighborhood with the desire to be thrown into new environments constantly & provide medical care for others across the country. Well, with both our hearts, goals & passion for travel being bigger than our bodies, it only makes sense that when we reunited over the holidays we fired each other up to do more. It was decided that 2018 would be the year we took our services to an international level to help serve those medically underserved. So after a lot of research, Hil & I are going to Kenya. We both were accepted into a week long medical program working at a hospital in Nairobi. Oddly enough we really felt called to do more. Continued research led us to a second perfect program spending a week at the Women’s Rescue Centere in Mombasa. These young women have been through unimaginable gender based violence & the aim of the program is to help them establish skills in order to become self sufficient & overcome their pasts. Our hearts are overflowing & Hillary & I have been communicating in ALL CAPS since we got accepted. Everything just lined up so perfectly for us, it feels like exactly where we are supposed to be.
Although our time will be limited, as travel nurses Hil & I have a verified understanding of how significant an impact you are able to make on a location in a short amount of time. (As well as how significant an impact can be made on you!) We hope for nothing less than that while we are in Kenya. We are humbly asking for donations to help fund some of our trip expenses but mostly to donate to each organization. We hope to use money we may raise to provide whatever support we can to the specific needs of each facility. We understand these “fund” pages can be redundant so we also designed a shirt with Fund The Nations. Majority of the expense of a purchased shirt will go towards our trip! We came up with the slogan, “Make Your Mark - Ignite Change,” which I’m pretty positive speaks for itself. Behind the phrase is a lightning bolt to remind everyone that even the most temporary spark can cause lasting impact. Please consider buying a shirt for 25$ (send Hillary or me your size and address) or donating to help fuel our desire to ‘make our mark’ on the world. Honestly, even $1.78 would probably elicit a love tackle from both of us the next time we see you! Thank you in advance for even reading this & considering helping us. Cheers to chasing big dreams in 2018!
