My Travel Story

by: Julia Eng Start Date: Aug 10, 2018 - End Date: May 9, 2019
Summer 2019 I will be volunteering at the Bali Sea Turtle Conservation for 3 weeks. I'm excited for this opportunity as I continue to further my career in becoming a Conservationist. Sea turtles have been classified as an endangered species and are slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin, and shell, causing the population to suffer immensely and may soon lead to extinction due to poaching and overexploitation. Sea turtles are also known for getting tangled in fishin gwire, or choked by litter and pollution. During my 3 weeks, I will be collecting sea turtle data, studying their behavior, collecting eggs, monitoring their nests and growth activity, ensuring hatchlings make it to the sea, and rehabilitating weak and injured sea turtles until they are stable and can be released back into the ocean. This project is meaningful to me because I hope to conserve the beautiful wildlife we have in hopes to decrease the threat of extinction that is so prevalent. I wish to make a difference so my future kids will be able to experience these animals for themselves without the threat of endangerment. I've had a love and passion for wildlife since I was young, and have made it a commitment to myself to ensure my actions aid in promoting a better future for our wildlife! If you are interested in supporting my cause, I will be more than grateful for a small contribution as the sea turtles and I would greatly appreciate it! :) thank you for your consideration!
