Hi Everyone!
I'm Kristin Peterson, an AmeriCorps VISTA alum (2016-2017), Penn State University (WE ARE!) and Central High School (261!) graduate. On August 28th, I leave Philadelphia to begin my 27 months with the Peace Corps. This is my second attempt as my first attempt last year was thwarted thanks to a blood clot in my right arm, but no worries, I'm alive and well!

I'm very excited for this opportunity to learn, grow, and share with a culture I have never experienced before while speaking a language I do not currently speak (Those 3 months of training are heavily focused on language). I will most likely be living in a space with limited electricity, extremely limited internet, and no running water (hellooooo bucket baths). This may seem nuts to some of you, but I cannot wait! Can you imagine learning how to actually filter water, and I don't mean by pouring it into a Brita.

I will be an English Literacy Facilitator working to teach Primary School children English as well as working to improve libraries and enhance student centered learning. I have various school and classroom experience, but this will be my first time in a truly resource limited environment. I can't wait to learn about a culture most Americans (including myself) have very little knowledge of.

After my time in the Peace Corps, I plan to attend graduate school to earn a degree in Education/Social Policy or International Development with an education focus. I've always wanted to improve the world somehow even if it's just a little bit and I believe that my Peace Corps experience, along with my AmeriCorps experience, will keep me on the path to doing just that!

Be sure to check out my Amazon Wish list. These are all things I need for Tonga. Going from a 4 season, weather controlled city to a tropical, super humid, no hot water on demand island is definitely going to be an adjustment and these are some of the things that will help in that transistion!!
