My Travel Story

In February 2018 I will be volunteering in Sri Lanka on a graduate mental health placement! Sri Lanka has extremely limited resources for mental health interventions, with medication the first - and often only - treatment option. Anyone that has experienced issues with mental health, either personally or someone close to them, will recognise that medication is a poor substitute for the support and compassion of the mental health professionals we have here in the UK. A combined approach is the best approach. That is why SLV Global sends volunteers to provide this support.

Mental health is incredibly important to me as many of you know, so I will be heading out for 3 months to work with individuals in psychiatric facilities and community outreach programmes, as well as teaching children and adults English, and supporting young people with learning difficulties.

Unfortunately after 4 years living like a typical student...funds are low!!! That's why I'm asking my friends, family and anyone who holds mental health close to their heart to sponsor my trip! I'll be working and saving like craaazy until I leave, but any donations would be hugely appreciated!

The money will go towards creative supplies to use in the workshops we will be running over there, as well as vaccinations required for the trip :)

Anything and everything donated will help me get there! So if you have anything to spare, I will be so so grateful.

Thank you for reading this, even if you can't donate :)
