My Travel Story

by: Sarah Bradbury Start Date: Jun 1, 2017 - End Date: May 31, 2018
I'm well aware this is the section where I am meant to tell you all about why I deserve for you to hand over your hard-earned money to help me make it stateside, where I dream of embarking on a 19 day road trip; I am also aware that I could tell you anything, absolutely anything, and you would be none-the-wiser as to whether I am being truthful with you, or not (I sadly once donated some money to someone whose story I had read which had touched me immensely, to then find out they had lied about everything). I've looked on fundraising sites (recently) and have come across people who are claiming they need money because of this, that, and the other, when in fact they they are just pulling-a-fast-one - a quick bit of "social media stalking" is definitely worth your while if you're thinking of donating to anyone(myself included). Thankfully the charlatans are very few-and-far-between, but they are still out there, preying on the kindness of others. Because of 'those' people I'm not going to sit here and tell you about my life or what has got me to the point where I have felt brave enough to ask complete strangers to help me achieve a dream. Instead I'm going to let you make your own minds up. Your help will be appreciated more than you could ever imagine, however, I know there are people out there who are far more deserving than I am, which is why I don't want to do (or say) anything to influence you one way or the other; it is purely down to you - of course, I'd love for you to help me, that goes without saying. Furthermore, I do not pay anyone to advertise me or my cause; not only does it cost a lot of money to do so, I believe in putting in the legwork myself. Aside from the admin fees this site charges, not a penny of the money you are kind enough to donate will be spent on advertising charges.

I can be found on Facebook, twitter, Instagram and I run my own blog; you are free to look me up on any of those to learn what you feel you need to know about me, if you so choose. All the links you need are listed on my donation page.

You will see, if you look me up, that I would dearly love to take my niece and nephew with me; now, there s is a story to be told (heartbreakingly sad) but it is their story to share, not mine, so while I could use it to tug on your heart strings, I don't have the right to use them for my gain although you will see them appear in my blog entries, and past updates..

All of the money I receive will go towards the trip - if I was to raise more than I need, I would forward on any extra to local charities, where more people could be helped.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in asking them.

  • It's All Getting Real Now :)

It's all getting real now :)
Rather than sitting back, hoping (always hoping) someone is going to come across this and be kind enough to donate the whole amount in one go (you've no idea how amazing that would be) I've also been doing my bit and have been selling off stuff I no longer need (I used to have my own place that was full of stuff - when I moved back into the family home that stuff all went up into the attic where it's stayed for way too many years). I figured as I am likely to be here for many years to come, it was time to sell some bits and bobs.

This morning I had a total up and am so chuffed to discover if I do this trip as a foursome (that's taking both kids as I would love to) then I am 10.05% of the way to raising the total amount needed; if, for some reason, there ends up just being 2 of us, then I am 13.93% of the way (I have a feeling my nephew will pull out at which point the friend who may (may not) be joining us would also be a no-show as he doesn't like to travel in threes - however, if he did decide he wanted to come he'd need to then only find his flight money as the rest is accounted for in the fundraising).

I always knew this would happen. We will make this trip possible :)
  • Results

I finally got the results of my mammogram back today - after hearing the last words the radiographer said to me about being "definitely called back" where she proceeded to make out there was a problem (and because I'd found the lump earlier in the year) I can't tell you how relieved I was to finally get a letter saying everything was "normal". It arrived 5 days later than it should but I'll take that any day. I know how lucky I am to have received the "all-clear" today (there will be women up and down the country who have not as lucky).
Rather than rest on my laurels though and think about how very lucky I have been, it's actually made me even more determined to push forward with the fund raising efforts. Just because I got lucky this time, doesn't mean I will do next time. Life is short; we have to do all we can to make it what we want it to be, when we can.
My heart goes out to all those ladies (and gents) who have not received such good news this week.
