My Travel Story

"We rise by lifting others"

Dear all,
My name is Lara and two days ago something amazing happened. I feel so blessed that I was accepted to volunteer in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks this summer. I can't explain with words how happy I am knowing that I will help someone who is in need. I always wanted to make a difference and I believe that if we help each other we can accomplish great things and put a smile on everyone's face!

I will be heading to Sri Lanka this summer as an SLV volunteer to assist in local mental health facilities (e.g.psychiatric facility), teaching youth English and children who are, unfortunately, often marginalised by poverty and circumstance. In addition, I'll also run activities for people with specific needs. The teams work with local professionals to better understand people's needs and culture and to be more effective as a volunteer.

SLV.global is a UK-based nonprofit organisation with beginnings in 2010 when a group of psychology graduates, led by Lucy Nightingale, along with two Sri Lankan youth workers, Yasintha and Mr Neil, established an incredible organisation that keeps growing.

This is an invaluable opportunity for me as a student of psychology to gain work experience and better insight into its practical applications. I also hope that it will motivate and influence my senior year thesis work.
Your donations will directly go to pay the fee for a homestay accommodation and meals, as well as the flight. Every act of kindness will mean so much to me, from a good wish to donation.

With all that said, I'm fundraising, cause I'm just a small girl from a small unknown village with a good will and plans. So I'm asking you to help me continue the chain of kindness, cause even though making one person smile may not change the world- it will change their world!

Thank you, Lara

Ps: I will keep in touch with all my supporters and post pictures to my facebook and travel blog.
