My Travel Story

"I chose Prague as my destination to for study abroad, because there is no better city to push me culturally, academically, and personally." -Western Washington University Junior, Jodie Permen

If my dream of attending spring semester 2018 in the heart of the Czech Republic's medieval city of Prague comes true, I will not only be taking courses in one of the oldest universities in Europe, at Charles University founded in 1348, but I will also be using those credits to satisfy transferable courses toward both my English undergraduate degree, and my History of Culture Concentration minor, back home at Western Washington University. Furthermore, I will be pushing myself through immersion into the Czech culture by way of language, food, singing in a student Prague choir, and by experiencing four months of daily Czech life.

Through the reputable study abroad organization USAC, I aim to take a two-week intensive conversational Czech workshop, a contemporary Jewish religious studies course, a study of experimental Czech film, some Czech culture and cusine cooking classes, an English course on Prague's image of literature, art and architecture, as well as venturing out on a 4-day field study to Vienna, Budapest, and Bratislava for locational courses on political science and history to expand global perspective.

I'm a muture and enthusiastic student who needs the aforementioned higher division courses to complete my BA, and I also need them and this program abroad to help me grow personally. I may be 29 and, yes I know I got to the university schtick late in life, but I tend to see my age and muturity as an asset. I have fodder for my studies and I appreciate such experiences as travel and education to my core. I want to use this semester abroad to change the way I see the world. I want Prague to be my next stepping stone as a life learner!

I chose Prague as my destination to for study abroad, because there is no better city to push me culturally, academically, and personally. This program will let me study medieval to contemporary history, art, architecture, politics, language, sociology, religions, and FOOD(!!!), all the while this program will push me to grow personally by facilitating my Czech immersion on the daily, and by helping me connect the dots between past and present, and my life's view and theirs.

I have attached some USAC links about the Prague spring semester program, and my home university's home page. Included also is a link to a fee list. Any amount added to my travel fund helps me get one step closer to making this study abroad semester happen. I appreciate every cent! Thank you so much for your support.

*Please note: My payment for the program is due in November, but I will leave my campaign running until the end of my semester if you wish to assist me with paying for my books, school supplies, city transportation, field trips, airfare, student visa, accomodations, and admissions into some of Prague's many cultural performances and events around the city.

Děkuji :) Ahoj for now!
