My Travel Story

by: Abby Ortega Start Date: Jul 31, 2017 - End Date: Sep 28, 2017
My name is Abby Daniela Ortega, I’m from Colombia. Since I was in college, I worried about our water resources, scarcity problems, waste of water and, at the same time, to look for a solution to protect our main sources and make a rational use, mainly in non-developed countries. Because of that I decided to study an uncommon source such as stormwater collected on the ground, like parking lots or roads. This is a really passionate task for me, because I feel I’m contributing with something new to have a sustainable planet.

I’m civil engineer and I had the opportunity to do a master degree by a Brazilian scholarship. My master thesis was intitled: Microfiltration and Ultrafiltration for treatment of stormwater collected on the ground, and with this study, I won the opportunity to share my results at the YWPC – Young Water Professionals Conference in Cape Town.

By the way, I’m looking for a PhD to develop smart cities with a smart water management.

As I said, I won the opportunity to present my research in an international conference. I already looked for any funding in my country, but it is difficult to find some economic help for this type of events (and for all academic purposes). My situation is also complicated because I am not linked to any educational institution in this moment.

For this reason I started to look for any help online, and I found this type of campaigns. I contacted the organizers and they gave me more time to find my funding! So I hope this works!

Thanks for your help
